How To Get More Done In Your Online Business

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

Do you know that by following a few simple tips you can get more tasks completed in less time. Some of these tips are very simple but they can create amazing results and you don’t have to worry about spending much money, maybe a few dollars.

The first tip you should start implementing in your business is getting a (yellow or white – 8×11) pad of paper to keep by your computer. This pad will be for your To-Do-List. At the top of the page, put the date for that day, then list the tasks that you want to get done. Every time you complete a task, cross it off.

At the end of the day, whatever tasks have not been completed, write them on the next page and then cross off those tasks. So at the end of the day everything is done (crossed off) Once you have added any unfinished tasks to the next page, spend a few minutes to list additional tasks that you want to get done.

Simply by using this strategy you will notice more things getting done and you will also feel better (less stress) since you know everything has been completed. You know that feeling when you didn’t get something done or forgot about something, it stays on your mind. Well this way if you remember something just put it on your list for tomorrow. You can also get a small notebook or journal for weekly and monthly tasks.

The next big tip is to organize your time better. As you probably already know and have experienced many times – getting Side-Tracked. Whether its from an instant message, looking at emails or just surfing around on the net. It doens’t take much to lose track of time and the next thing you know, you ended up working for 20 minutes and wasted over 2 hours.

There are 2 ways that I have found that can keep you on track. First, get a stop watch and set it for the desired amount of time you want to spend on that task. If you don’t have a stop watch and you’re short on money, try an Online Stopwatch (or countdown). Once your times up, Stop! (You can add it to tomorrow’s to-do-list) This isn’t just for when working, you want to set breadk times and some time for goofing around, surfing, playing games or whatever else.

The second way of staying on track, especially if you get side-tracked very easily. Get a program called “DoNotDisturb“. This program will allow you to block programs that may side track your during a specified time frame.

Some other ideas to keep in mind are:

- Separate your work life from your home life (get an office outside of your home or create an area in your home where you will not be disturbed.

- Create audio CDs from audio courses and listen to them while your driving to work or going out for a coffee. By using this tip, you will be able to use your time more efficiently and learn more faster.

- Filter your business files in one place to make it easier to locate files when you need them.
Ex: store all files in a folder called “Business” under your “My Documents” folder.

- Use the RoboForm Toolbar in your browser to keep track of all your login information, auto-fills and other additional features.

- Create a System for your business. This way you can teach other people to do these steps so you don’t have to. This is known as “Outsourcing” and will dramatically increase results while giving your more time to do what you want.

Outsourcing – The Big Secret To Financial Success

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Do you realize that the top gurus or business savvy people use Outsourcing to create the majority of their success? Do you really think they do all the work? No!

So what is Outsourcing?

Outsourcing is basically getting someone else to do a job or task for you to save you time and money. Most of the time, if not all the time, these people will be able to do a much better job then you could.

Here’s an example:

If you needed a graphic for a product created, and you aren’t a graphic designer or know very little, by outsourcing this task you would receive a much better quality graphic (more professional) and it would cost you less because you would first have to learn how to do it. (Just figure out how many hours it would take you to learn how and then how long it would take to do it, multiple that by how much you figure your time is worth, then compare that to what you are going to pay to outsource it.

Now when you’re just starting out, you don’t want to outsource everything. You should learn how to do it yourself or at least know what it should look like when done properly. There’s no point paying someone to do a job for you if you don’t even know if they did a good job or even did it correctly.

Some times you can get away with this, but it will take some research to find a qualified person and it will cost a lot more money.

There are many different things you can have outsourced, you can even outsource your entire business. Here are some of the things you can have outsourced:

  • Ghost Writing – articles, reports, ebooks, physical books, newsletters, copywriting
  • Graphic Designer – headers, footers, ecovers, CDs, DVDs, entire websites
  • Programmers – design software, installing of scripts, websites or blog setup
  • Fulfillment – product duplication, packaging, delivery
  • Some others include – customer service, payments and refunds, legal services, audio, video

Here are some of the services you can use:

The great benefit from using several of these sites is you can list your project and other people will come and bid on it (how much they are will to pay and how it will take them) NEVER, take the first bid… wait a few days or a week or so, let several people bid on your project so you can compare them.

Don’t choose someone based on the price. This can get you into trouble (waste of money and time) Make sure you check out their portfolio, their rating, or anything else that can help you make your decision. Also remember that just because you post a project, doesn’t mean you have to choose someone.

Remember you are hiring someone to do the job for you, do you think just because you apply for a job you should get it… not likely!

The best way to get started, is to sign up for an account at each of these services. Browse around a bit so you know the layout, then decide on a project to test them out. Even if you on a tight budget, I still recommend you doing this. You don’t have to spend much money, maybe $5-$20 on an article or small graphic. (I have seen several people that will do professional graphics for under $10)

When you post your project, make sure to include specific details such as if you getting an ebook created, don’t just say you want a 50-page ebook. Tell them the font size, font type, margins, line spacing, etc. I have heard of some people that have posted a project without these details and ended up getting an ebook that was about 10 pages long due to huge font sizes, big margins and double spacing each line.

Think about your project, post as much detail about the finished product without going to deep as what content it should include. Once you have found a person to do your project then you will be able to go into full detail of what your ebook should include and exactly what you want.

I hope these tips on outsourcing have helped you and will give you a different outlook on hiring other people to do the work for you, so you can spend more time on things that are more important to you and your business.

I will also be doing some research to find some good videos showing you more about outsourcing. If I can’t find some good ones I will create some for you.

If you want to learn more about outsourcing, I just came across the “Outsourcing Secrets Revealed” course created by Jeff Mills. Right now, Jeff will give you The Outsource Compendium for free, so head on over and pick it before he decides to starting selling it.

Who Is Mike Gillis? And Why Should You Listen To Him?

To begin with, I am from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada and have also lived a big portion of my life in Moncton, New Brunswick.

I started out in high school and even a bit younger wanting to own my own business as it was something that clicked with me. But after discovering what could be done online compared to offline (physcial) businesses, it became an easy decision to learn what was needed to become an Internet Marketer.

Although it isn’t as easy to learn the right steps to creating an online business and being able to produce profits. I have spent years working at it and have been determined to make it, no matter what anyone else tells me.

This is probably one of the most important factors that can determine success or failure online. Since many people do not believe it is possible they will tell you to stop dreaming and find a long term job or career. Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t have some type of income, as you will need some money to invest in your business.

This was always a big problem for me, as I didn’t have much money to spare. I also claimed bankruptcy at age 22 for almost $23,000 not including student loans (they couldn’t be included in the bankruptcy)

Anyways, I have spent a lot of time learning to how to get things done for free or next to nothing to produce results. And you can do it!

Of course, there are some things that cost money that can really make a huge difference whether they be: courses, services, tools, software or whatever.

So in the last 7-8 years, you can bet that I’ve discover a lot of secrets and tactics to use. Just to give you a brief idea, here are some of the topics I have studied: seo, adwords, web design, email marketing, setting up a domain, hosting, autoresponders, blogging, niche marketing, social media, copywriting and more…

One of the most important pieces of advice I can give you is, don’t worry if you don’t know how to do something, because there is always someone else that can. This is how almost all the big name gurus online and offline are able to make huge fortunes.

You will be surprised at how much you can get accomplished even with a small budget.

Well my introduction has become much longer than expected, so I will end here and will continue later in more detail about these items.

One last thing I want to mention, I will be adding a Mentor’s section on the sidebar of the most influential marketers that I have learned from and a section of recommendations such as tools or services that I currently use or have used to get positive results.

So that’s it for, make sure you bookmark MikeGillis.com and subscribe to my RSS feed for future updates.
